Impressive mountain panoramas
Our hotel is surrounded by mighty mountains as far as the eye can see – just the kind of dreamlike landscape you imagine. Right outside our door, you can access the nearby hiking trails and mountain regions.
Whether you’re stepping outside for a gentle stroll or heading higher into the mountains, nature is always within reach.
Hidden in plain sight above Sexten lies one of the Dolomites’ most fascinating wonders: the Sesto Sundial — a perfect alignment of five mountain peaks that track the sun like a giant natural clock.
You can admire the sundial right from the valley between Moos and Sexten, or from our hotel terrace. On clear days, especially in winter, the effect is most visible.
Each of the five peaks — named Nine, Ten, Eleven, Twelve, and One — marks the sun’s position as it moves across the sky. Around noon in winter, the sun stands directly above Zwölfer (Twelve), just like the hand of a clock striking 12.

For centuries, this sun-aligned skyline helped farmers and shepherds tell time. Locals still speak of it with pride, and today, it remains a symbol of Sexten’s deep connection to nature, rhythm, and tradition.
Just minutes from Hotel Royal, the Three Peaks (Tre Cime di Lavaredo) and the surrounding 3 Zinnen Dolomites offer everything from iconic views to peaceful alpine trails. Ride up to Monte Elmo, walk among flowers at Stiergarten, or explore WWI paths at Croda Rossa — each mountain with its own story and scenery.
A collection of must-see spots within the 3 Zinnen region — from family trails to dramatic peaks, all just a lift ride away.
A playful loop trail at Monte Elmo where families meet alpine animals along 10 themed stations — stroller-friendly and perfect for little explorers.
Normally the great views come only at the end of a tour, but the Stiergarten gives you an early reward with a view of the Sesto Sundial and the Three Peaks.
The Dolomites are almost close enough to touch from Croda Rossa. This is a location where there were military emplacements in the First World War, and you can immerse yourself in history here, scale the most famous via ferratas in the Alps.
Let the Dolomites shape your days — whether you’re chasing sunlight across the Sundial or exploring panoramic trails near the Three Peaks. Hotel Royal is your place to pause, explore, and feel at home in nature.
